Area Softball: Pioneers sweep 1A's 4th-ranked Kimball Cubs

PIERZ—Laura Skiba of Pierz smashed a two-run homer and doubled in Game Two as the Pioneers swept Class 1A's fourth-ranked Kimball Cubs 2-1 and 12-11 in a Central Minnesota Conference doubleheader Thursday.

With the Pioneers down 10-5 in Game Two, Pierz pushed in seven runs.

"Jade Porter hit a single to knock in Ella Kalusche to tie the game and then Laura Skiba hit a double to put Pierz ahead," Pierz head coach Matthew Poepping said. "After two wild pitches, Skiba scored to make it 12-10."

Brittney Boser scored the winning run in Game One on a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh.

Boser was the winning pitcher in both games with a combined five strikeouts.

Terri Tretter, Kalusche and Skiba each had three hits in Game Two.

No. 6 PRB sweeps

PINE RIVER— Bailey Wynn went 2-4 at bat, scored three runs, recorded three RBIs and bashed a home run as Class 1A's sixth-ranked Pine River-Backus Tigers defeated the Nevis Tigers 15-5 and 14-3 in an Upper Mississippi Conference doubleheader Thursday.

Danielle Burgoyne of Pine River-Backus slammed a triple in Game One and a double in Game Two while Jamie Johnson went 2-2 with a run and RBI in Game Two.

Nevis is now 4-4 in conference, 6-3 overall, with PRB sitting 4-0 in conference, 11-0 overall.

Flyers drop pair

ST. CLOUD—Savea Zimmerman and Jasmine Miller of Little Falls each went 2-3 at bat with a single and triple as the Flyers fell 6-2 and 7-1 to the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders in a Granite Ridge Conference doubleheader Thursday.

Kali Mammenga went 3-3 at in Game Two with three singles and an RBI.
