Area Softball: Aitkin wins 1st 2 of season

AITKIN—Ramsey Moe went 7-7 with two doubles, three RBIs and six runs for the Aitkin Gobblers who picked up their first wins of the season with a 24-9 and 22-3 Mid-State Conference sweep of Staples-Motley Tuesday.

Winning pitcher Sarah Curtiss went 3-4 in Game One for Aitkin with a pair of doubles, four runs and four RBIs. Chandra MacDonald turned in three hits, including a double, and Ally Ehnstrom homered, drove in five and scored three runs. Kenna MacDonald added a double.

Amyah Converse tripled for the Cards while going 2-4 and Kayla Yoder finished 3-3.

In the second game, Chandra MacDonald went 4-5 with a double, three RBIs and three runs and Moe finished 3-3 with a double. Also contributing doubles were Ehnstrom, who was 3-5, Jillian MacDonald and Shelby Coombs.

Allison Cushing was 2-3 with a double, while Converse and Yoder also contributed multiple hits for S-M.

CROSBY—Caitlyn Gutzman went a combined 7-for-11 with four RBIs, four doubles and one triple as the Crosby-Ironton Rangers swept Upsala 16-6, 11-7 in a non-conference game Tuesday.

In Game one, Macy Roach went 3-5 with two RBIs and two doubles and Casidy Dueer went 3-4 with three runs, a double and an RBI.

Bryanna Wilson went 3-5 with a run and an RBI in Game Two. Casidy Dueer was 2-3 with three runs and an RBI. Anabel combined for six hits and added an RBI in Game Two.

Katjanna Tauzell and Matt Kovatovich each went 2-4 with two RBIs and two runs and Emma Sanford was 2-4 with two runs an an RBI.

Kovatovich pitched both wins.

Pequot wins 2

PEQUOT LAKES—Eighth-grader Morgan Eckes pitched two complete games for the Pequot Lakes Patriots who closed out their regular season with a 17-1 win over Bagley and an 11-3 win over Pine River-Backus Tuesday.

Eckes struck out seven, walked one and allowed two hits against Bagley. Against PRB, she struck out five, walked four and allowed six hits.

Mariah Rickard went 3-3 with a double and three RBIs for Pequot against Bagley. Kenzie Nelson added a double and Karlie Trottier finished 2-4.

Against PRB, Alex Kotaska and Bre Sewall doubled and Nelson ripped a triple for the Patriots. Trottier, Rickard and Cassandra Haman all went 2-4.

Bailey Wynn, Emma Barchus and Jamie Johnson all went 2-3 to account for PRB's six hits. The Tigers efforts were hampered by 10 errors.

PIERZ—Brittney Boser struck out 13 and allowed two earned runs on three hits as she pitched the Pierz Pioneers to a 5-2 non-conference victory over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Tuesday.

Boser helped her own cause by going 2-3 with a double, an RBI and a run.

Ella Kalusche was 2-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs and Taylor Cummings went 2-2 with a double for Pierz.

Pillager 5, Royalton 4

PILLAGER—Pillager rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh on four walks, a fielder's choice and a walk-off single by Savannah Sprau that closed out the Huskies' regular season with a 5-4 non-conference victory over the Royalton Royals.

Samantha Thomas had three hits for Pillager which was outhit 11-6, but was able to take advantage of 10 walks and five Royalton errors.

Ella Kilchesky struck out five and walked one for the win.

W-DC 9, Swanville 8

WADENA—Kyla Ness slapped one double with 2 RBIs and 3 runs in a 9-8 Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines win over Swanville Tuesday.

Hailey Wiederich totalled one double and 2 RBIs and Courtney Warren added a double for the 8-8 Wolverines.

B-H/V falls twice

SEBEKA—Morgan Glenz, Katie Johnson and Melanie Line all doubled and finished with two hits for the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders in a 10-9, eight-inning, loss to the Sebeka Trojans in the first game of a Park Region Conference doubleheader Tuesday.

Sebeka finished a sweep of the Raiders with a 15-4 Game Two victory

Also collecting two hits for BHV in the opening game were Haley Youngbauer, Shiann Richter, Molly Brownlow and Kaija Weishalla.

Youngbauer doubled for the Raiders in the second game and Cortnie Cottrell drove in two runs.
