Area Softball: Gobblers, Rangers split Mid-State doubleheader
AITKIN—The Aitkin Gobblers and Crosby-Ironton Rangers played two close games and ended the night with a split in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Thursday.
Chandra MacDonald and Jilian MacDonald each accounted for three hits and three RBIs in a 10-9 Game One win for Aitkin. Sarah Curtiss recorded the win pitching seven innings and striking out four.
The Rangers battled back for the 7-6 win in Game Two led by Mya Decent with three RBIs, including a home run, and by Bryanna Wilson with two RBIs. Decent hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the fifth. Wilson hit a game-winning walk-off single.
Mattie Kovatovich struck out three batters in five innings to get the win for C-I.

LITTLE FALLS-- Sadie Sue Houdek of Little Falls went 3-5 with a home run, double, three RBIs and two runs scored as the Flyers defeated the Milaca Wolves 11-1 in a Granite Ridge Conference game Thursday.
Megan Kirk hit three doubles for Little Falls while going 3-4 with an RBI.

Boser, Pierz sweep
HOWARD LAKE—Brittney Boser recorded two wins on the mound, and went 2-3 in Game Two to lead Pierz to a doubleheader sweep over Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted in a Central Minnesota Conference game Thursday.
The Pioneers took Game One 6-2 behind two hits, including a double and RBI, from Laura Skiba. Boser struck out five and gave up just two unearned runs.
Emily Burgraff, Ella Kalusche, and Terri Tretter, along with Boser, each posted two hits in a 9-4 Game Two win.
Boser pitched six innings, striking out six and giving up three earned runs.

BHV Raiders sweep
BERTHA—After rallying to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Parkers Prairie 3-2, the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders' bats came alive in the second game as they pounded the Panthers 21-9 in a Park Region Conference doubleheader Thursday.
In the first game, Kaija Weishalla doubled and Haley Youngbauer singled in the seventh for BHV and both scored on errors. Shiann Richter was the only Raider with multiple hits in the opener, finishing 3-3, and Melanie Line contributed a double.
Katie Johnson led the Raider attack in Game Ttwo as she went 4-5 with four RBIs and two runs. Line went 3-3 with three runs and two RBIs. Morgan Glenz was 2-4 with a double and four runs. Youngbauer and Weishalla each had a pair of hits.
Cortnie Cottrell was the winning pitcher in both games. She struck out six in a complete-game effort in the first game and worked 2.2 innings in the second.

W-DC splits finale
WADENA—Wadena-Deer Creek's Kyla Ness and Amber Moen each knocked in four runs in a 13-8 win in Game One, and the Wolverines lost 5-4 in Game Two against Menahga in a Park Region Conference game to end the regular season Thursday.
Mackenzie Carsten got the Game One win as she struck out 11 Braves. Casey Volkmann also doubled and tripled in the win.
Volkmann and Moen each recorded hits in Game Two and struck out four while giving up just two earned runs.
