Area Softball: Pierz starts out 3-0

PIERZ—Winning pitcher Anna Taylor struck out nine and allowed just two hits over five innings for the Pierz Pioneers who posted a 3-0 non-conference win over the Aitkin Gobblers Tuesday, April 16.

Ella Kalusche went 2-3 for the Pioneers and Emily Daiker drove in two runs.

Pierz—Taylor Cummings was 3-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Pierz Pioneers in an 8-4 victory over the Browerville Tigers earlier in the day Tuesday, April 16.

Laura Skiba also doubled for Pierz and went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs.

Starter Emma Sadlovsky picked up the win. She allowed four runs on five hits over five innings and struck out five. Tori Wagner earned a save as she struck out one and walked three in a scoreless final inning.

Little Falls 7, Milaca 5

MILACA—Madison Segler went 2-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run for the Little Falls Flyers who picked up their first win of the season with a 7-5 Granite Ridge Conference victory over the Milaca Wolves Tuesday, April 16.

Allie Steinmetz finished 2-4 with a double and a triple and was the winning pitcher in relief. She struck out three and didn't walk a batter or allow a hit over the final 1 2/3 innings.

Staples-Motley shutout twice

DETROIT LAKES—The Staples-Motley Cardinals managed just two hits over two games as they opened their season with 15-0 and 13-0 losses to the Detroit Lakes Lakers in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Tuesday, April 16.

The two hits for the Cards came on singles by Jasmine Braith and Amber Longworth in Game Two's loss.

PIERZ—Jade Porter finished 3-4 with a double, stolen base, two RBIs and a run to help Pierz top Holdingford 10-6 for a Central Minnesota Conference win Monday, April 15.

Emily Burgraff added two runs and an RBI.

Emily Sadlovsky scored the victory. She allowed five hits, three walks and four earned runs in six innings pitched. She struck out six.

Tori Wagner pitched the final inning for the save. She allowed one hit and stuck out one.
