LITTLE FALLS-Defensive gems highlighted Pequot Lakes' 4-1 non-conference victory over Little Falls Thursday, April 18.

Ari Merta collected a highlight reel catch in left field and Pequot head coach Bret Sergent praised the play of catcher Maddy Morrison, who threw a runner out trying to steal and hauled in a pop up at the backstop.

Morrison also helped Pequot pitcher Morgan Eckes earn the win. Eckes struck out three, walked one and allowed three hits and no earned runs.

The Flyers' Allie Steinmetz struck out three, walked two and allowed four hits and one earned run.

Kyla Ness went 3-5 with two runs, two RBIs and a double and Mercedes Schulz finished 3-4 with three runs and two RBIs. Nevada Schulz finished 3-4 with two runs and an RBI and Mackenzie Carsten drove in two runs.

Pillager's Jenna Woidyla went 3-4 with three RBIs and a run. Ella Kilchesky went 3-5 with three RBis and a run and Sam Macheel drove in two runs. Skyler Uselman and Kacey Anderson each finished 3-5 with two runs and an RBI.

BHV sweeps

PARKERS PRAIRIE-Melanie Line pitched a five-hit 1-0 shutout and Mikayla Hinzmann threw a five-hit 3-1 victory to pitch the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Pirates to a Park Region Conference sweep of Parkers Prairie Thursday, April 18.

In Game Two, Molly Brownlow went 1-3 with a run and an RBI. Hinzmann struck out four, walked two and allowed one earned run.

Line struck out seven and walked one for the Game One win. Kaija Weishalla was 2-3 and Morgan Glenz hit a double, but it was Skylar Bertram's run that was the difference.
