PIERZ-Emily Sadlovsky struck out seven, walked one and surrendered five hits for the No. 2 Pierz Pioneers who defeated the No. 15 Melrose Dutchmen 2-0 in the opening round of the Section 6-2A tournament Monday, May 20.

Taylor Cummings belted a solo homer for the Pioneers who managed just four hits. Laura Skiba singled and scored the other Pierz run.

PINE RIVER-Jamie Johnson hit a two-run home run as the No. 4 Pine River-Backus Tigers crushed the No. 5 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves 6-0 in the West Subsection 5-1A opening round Monday, May 20.

Danielle Burgoyne, Gabby Heck and Bailey Wynn were all 2-3 for the Tigers with Burgoyne recording a double, a run scored and two RBIs.

Jada Olivier struck out seven, walked one and scattered seven hits for the shutout.

BERTHA-Melanie Line finished 3-3 with four RBIs, three runs scored and was one of five Raiders with doubles as No. 2 Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale dispatched the No. 7 Laporte Wildcats 17-1 in four innings in the opening round of the West Subsection 5-1A Tournament Monday, May 20.

Mardi Ehrmantraut, Kaija Weishalla, Molly Brownlow and Savana Richter also registered doubles. Ehrmantraut and Richter finished with two hits apiece.

MiKayla Hinzmann struck out two and gave up an unearned run on four hits for the win.

Albany 8, Pillager 7

ALBANY-No. 12 Pillager's Ella Kilchesky and Sam Macheel combined for four hits and five RBIs in an 8-7 loss to No. 5 Albany in the opening round of the Section 6-2A Tournament Monday, May 20.

The Huskies scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at seven, but Albany scored a run off of Kilchesky in the bottom of the eighth inning to advance.

Kilchesky went 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Macheel was 2-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Pillager closes the season with a record of 7-13.
