Area Softball: Geschwill pitches Pequot past Trojans

PEQUOT LAKES—Kaitlyn Geschwill struck out 10 in a four inning no hitter for the No. 3 Pequot Lakes Patriots as they defeated the No. 6 Barnesville Trojans 15-0 in the South Subsection 8-2A opening round Tuesday, May 21.

Maddie Morrison finished 2-4 with two RBIs and two doubles and Ari Merta went 2-3 and added a double with four RBIs for the 13-5 Patriots.

Maya Orvis, Afton Crocker and Rita Ganley added a double to advance the Patriots to the South Subsection 8-2A quarterfinals.

ALEXANDRIA—Laura Skiba belted a three-run homer, a double and drove in six runs to lead the No. 2 Pierz Pioneers past the No. 7 Sauk Centre Mainstreeters 13-3 in five innings in the Section 6-2A quarterfinals Tuesday, May 21.

Jade Porter added a two-run home run for the Pioneers and Taylor Cummings finished 2-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Emily Sadlovsky pitched all five innings. She struck out three, walked five and allowed three runs, one earned, on six hits.

BERTHA—Mardi Ehrmantraut finished 2-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases for the No. 2 Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders who defeated the No. 3 Menahga Braves 8-3 in the West Subsection 5-1A semifinals Tuesday, May 21.

Tess Jones and Morgan Glenz contributed doubles for the Raiders.

Melanie Line allowed five hits, struck out three and walked five over seven innings.

RUSH CITY—Monica Stokman and Abigail Arneson both finished 2-3 for the No. 4 Crosby-Ironton Rangers who were eliminated 5-1 by the No. 4 Rush City Tigers in the opening round of the Section 7-2A Tournament Tuesday, May 21.

Gwen Rosecrans was tagged with the loss. She gave up five runs, three earned, on four hits over 4 2/3 innings. Tori DeCent had three stolen bases for the Rangers who finish 8-13.

MORA—Aitkin's Kailey Plekkenpol recorded a solo home run as the No. 6 Aitkin Gobblers who fell 11-1 to the No. 3 Mora Mustangs in the opening round of the Section 7-2A Tournament Tuesday, May 21.

Perham 11, W-DC 1

PERHAM—Kyla Ness scored the only run for the No. 5 Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines who were eliminated 11-1 by the No. 4 Perham Yellowjackets in the South Subsection 8-2A opening round Tuesday, May 21.

Katie Johnson pitched a six-inning no-hitter for Perham, which jumped out to an early lead with seven runs in the first and three in the second.

Flyers Vy Do, Abby Poser, Sadie Sue Houdek and Marre Welinski each tallied a run for Little Falls.
