PINE RIVER — Jaime Johnson allowed just one hit and struck out five as she pitched the Pine River-Backus Tigers to a 15-0 Upper Mississippi Conference shutout against Kelliher/Northome Friday, May 21.

The victory forced a three-way tie for the conference championship between PRB, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and Blackduck as all three teams finished with 6-1 conference records.

Danielle Burgoyne went 3-4 with a triple, grand slam, three runs scored and six RBIs.

Rylee Norman was 2-4 with a double and three RBIs. Annabelle Knapp finished 2-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI and Gracie Crimmins hit a double.

Victoria Koering was 2-2 with two runs and RBI for the Tigers.

BHV splits

VERNDALE — Brandi Warren and Mya Sawyer both hit Game One home runs for the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders leading to an 11-6, 7-4 Park Region Conference split with the New York Mills Eagles Friday, May 21.

Warren added a double, two runs and two RBIs in Game One. Reagan Ludovissie also hit a double with two runs and two RBIs and Taylor Johnson collected a double with a run and two RBIs.

In Game Two, Warren posted another home run with two runs and two RBIs and Madison Schmitz hit a double.

Hailey Hudalla and Ludovissie each scored one run for BHV.

WADENA — Montana Carsten was 3-4 with two runs, a double, a triple, a home run with four RBIs for the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines in a 17-2 non-conference win over the Bagley Flyers Friday, May 21.

Katelyn Gardner added a home run with two RBIs and Nevada Schulz went 2-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.

It’s the second straight game Couture hit a home run. Ellie Skeesick was also 2-2 for the Flyers.
