Stock Car Racing: Andrew Johnson collects first career win

Results from North Central Speedway.

BARROWS — A full moon shining off the custom-made lake and a father celebrating his son’s first career victory set the atmosphere around the second to last night of points racing Saturday, Aug. 21, at North Central Speedway.

Stock Car driver Tim Johnson has held the checkered flag many times at the end of a

feature race, but Saturday, Andrew Johnson came away with his first career win in the Super Stock feature event.

With the Stock Car feature going off next, Tim wasn’t able to see his son run to victory, but as the stock cars pulled onto the track, Flagman Jess Geesey summoned Tim on the driver radio to come over and celebrate with his son and the two drivers and their family all made it in the post-race celebration photo.

That almost didn’t happen as heavy rains moved through the Brainerd Lakes area

Friday night, forming a large pond in the infield. A post on Facebook Saturday morning, along with a shot of the pond, declared that racing would go on as scheduled.

Shawn Fletcher tightened the gap in the Modified point’s race to just nine points behind

Aaron Johnson with his seventh feature win of the season. Justin Jones won for the first

time in 2021 in the Sport Modified class.

Mod Four driver Josh Litzau owns six top-five finishes in 12 feature appearances this season and he made it to the top of the field for the first time in 2021.

Tim Gonska leads the point’s race for Stock Car, but Kris Peterson has the most wins of

any driver and he increased that number to four with another feature win.

It has been Brandon Bombardo’s year as the Hobby Stock driver has accumulated

seven wins, building a commanding points lead. Dave Johnson has the second-most

wins in the class and Saturday he made it three wins.

For the Sport Compact class, it was another appearance from the Kohl brothers, this

time Nathan with his seventh win which leads the class. He is just eight points shy of

Greg (Junior) Kohl with one race remaining.
