BARROWS — The season of excellence continues for Mod Four driver Tommy Bawden.

On Saturday, July 17 at North Central Speedway, Bawden added another feature win.

For Bawden, it was his sixth win of the season at NCS and he is almost assured of a national points title with a 48-point lead through 34 events. Chad Funt finished second behind Bawden, but in the points system at NCS, Funt actually holds a 95-point lead over Bawden with six weeks to go in the racing season.

Stock Car driver Aaron Johnson stepped into a Stock Car midway through this season. The former Hobby Stock champion took a few weeks to get comfortable behind the wheel of the stock car, but it didn't take long. That spells trouble for the other drivers. Johnson made his second appearance at the winner’s podium holding the checkered flag.

It was also a successful night for Johnson in the Modified class feature with a second-place finish behind Shawn Fletcher. Fletcher and Johnson each have recorded three victories this season and are separated by just six points in the points race with six races left.

As Devin Larson waited to get out of his car after winning the Hobby Stock feature, a number of drivers stopped by to offer him congratulations. Points leader Brandon Bombardo pulled his car up in the infield and got out of his car to offer his congratulations to Larson, who had held off Bombardo to take the checkered flag.

The battle for the points title in the Sport Compact class is a family affair with one outsider. Greg Kohl sits atop the leaderboard, just nine points clear of Jenna Hagemann. The other driver in the Kohl family, Nathan, is only 26 points back and he won for the third time this season Saturday. Greg, a four-time winner this season, took third and has, along with Hagemann, finished in the top five in 10 of 11 feature events.

It was the veteran Mark Martini taking his picture with the checkered flag after his feature win in the Sport Mod class. Jake Hagemann secured the third spot in the feature which helped him keep a two-point lead over David Siercks.
