BARROWS — Tim Gonska collected his first career win in Stock Car and Mod Four driver Tommy Bawden made it two wins in two weeks Saturday, May 8, at North Central Speedway.
Gonska, the 2020 Hobby Stock points champion, started the season in a new class with the Stock Cars and had a top-five finish in his first two races including his first-place finish Saturday.
Only four cars made the feature event, but Gonska started out front and never gave up the lead, finishing in front of Erick Thiesse and Thomas Arndt.
Bawden had the best season in terms of wins of any driver last year on his way to the Mod 4 points championship and so far this season he has served notice that 2020 wasn’t a fluke. He picked up his first trophy of the season last week and Saturday night he made it two in a row.

Starting from the fourth row, Bawden finished in first place in the 15-lap feature in front of Gerrald Nohner, who also has a feature win this season, and Sklyer Smith, who has three top-five finishes in three events.
Eighteen Sport Compact drivers completed 15 caution-free laps and it was the 2JR car of Greg Kohl crossing the finish line first to make it three feature wins in the first three weeks for the 2020 track champion. Kaleb Ruikka took second place followed by Nathan Kohl in third.
Last year was a good year for Sportmods driver Brendon Yamry. He finished in seventh place in the points race with five top-five finishes in 13 races.
In just the third race of the 2021 season, Yamry drove to the top spot after three caution flags on the first lap and stayed there to win his first race of the new season. Veteran driver Mark Martini wasn’t able to chase Yamry down and took the second spot, followed by Jake Hagemann.
Dave Johnson held off a challenge from Chris Seidel and took the checkered flag for the Hobby Stock feature. The win was Johnson’s first of the season who won three races last season and finished in second place behind Gonska.
It was veteran driver Tim Johnson leading all 20 feature laps and taking first place for the Super Stock race, and Shawn Fletcher passed Chuck Olson midway through the Modified feature event and took his first checkered flag of the season.
