Stock Car Racing: Saturday nights about to heat up at NCS

A sure sign of summer is the 2018 racing season begins for North Central Speedway Saturday, May 5 with six classes of cars taking the track for Week One of the 17 week racing season.

A sure sign of summer is the 2018 racing season begins for North Central Speedway Saturday, May 5 with six classes of cars taking the track for Week One of the 17 week racing season.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing starting at 6:45 p.m..

Along with the International Motor Contest Association sanctioned classes and the NCS Mod 4's and Super Stocks, the Micro Sprints will make two visits to the track this season. The first will be July 7 for WWE Night. They will also be on the racing schedule for both nights of the Mighty Axe Nationals over Labor Day weekend.

2017 was a season of dominance for a number of the points champions. Shawn Fletcher ran away with the Modified championship with a 48-point win over Aaron Johnson. Robert Young III pulled away from Timothy Gonska for a 24-point victory in the Hobby Stocks and Derek Stanoch was a winner by 29 points over Brendon Yamry in Sport Compact racing.

David Siercks and Jake Hagemann battled each other all year in the Northern Sport Mod race before Siercks pulled away at the end. Seth Kramer was a 13-point winner over Dylan Nelson in the Super Stocks.

In the closest race of the season, Jerry Esler and shopmate Dean Blanchard went into the final weekend with just one point separating them. Esler came away with the one-point win.

With most of the racers returning, the 2018 season promises to be an exciting one.
