Former Brainerd Warrior Michael Bylander of Baxter will compete in the NCAA Division III swimming championships March 18-21 in Greensboro, N.C.
Bylander raced to a national qualifying time at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships last month, where he set a conference record of 2:00.87 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Bylander’s time broke a record that had been in place since 2013. That swim placed him among the top 16 Division III swimmers in the nation in the 200-yard breaststroke.
A sophomore on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire swim team, Bylander will also compete in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke events at the national championships.
Bylander was named UW-EC Blugold swim team freshman of the year in 2019. An all-conference swimmer, he and teammates hold Blugold all-time records in the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard medley relay. Bylander was selected as a WIAC swimmer of the week in January following first-place finishes in the seven events in which he competed that week.
