CHISAGO LAKES — Brainerd’s doubles team of Lindsy Busch-Catherine Moraghan and Pequot Lakes’ Megan Muller both finished third in the Section 7-2A Individual finals Tuesday, Oct. 19.
Busch-Moraghan fell to Elk River’s Emma Anderson-Mya Nelson 6-2, 6-0 before rebounding with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Hibbing’s Megan Bussey-Claire Rewertz in the third-place match.
“Lindsy and Catherine made it to the final four of our section and that is a tremendous accomplishment,” Warriors head coach Lisa Salo said. “They end their high school careers with a solid win, placing third in our section and can look back at their overall efforts realizing they had such a positive impact on our program. This was a great season for our entire team.”
Muller improved her season record to 31-4 and her career record to 107-14 as she claimed third in the singles bracket. Unfortunately, she did it by defeating her teammate Carly Chaney 6-2, 7-5.
Muller fell to Elk River’s Ava Nelson in the semifinals, while Chaney fell to Forest Lake’s Malia McKinnon.
Chaney finished the year 34-3 with all three losses coming in the last four days. Chaney’s career concludes with a 79-3 record.
Both seniors concluded four-year varsity seasons.
“To have those two at the top singles spots for us has been amazing the past few years because they played so well,” Pequot head coach Monica Sergent said. “When they play in those positions and are that successful it allows all the other players to play in positions where they can compete successfully, too. It sets the whole team up for success.”
