Track and Field: Albright wins 3, Warriors sweep dual

Brainerd hosted Sartell in a CLC track and field meet.

Andrew Albright

Andrew Albright enjoyed unusual success Thursday, May 6, in a Central Lakes Conference dual with Sartell at Adamson Field in Brainerd.

The success part wasn’t unusual for the Brainerd athlete, but his events list was. Albright won the long and triple jumps and was second in the 110-meter hurdles and then added a first-place shot put throw of 46-9.5 to lead the Warrior boys to first.

Brainerd’s girls’ team also won.

“The sad thing is we need him on the track too,” Brainerd Warriors head boys coach Rod Reuer said. “We did a time trial the other day in practice and he’s one of our top three or four sprinters. He’s a horse. He’s a big kid so we tried him at shot put. He practiced it for about a week. I mean he did some in junior high, but heck, that was four years ago.

“He came into the season in great shape. We needed hurdles and so we threw those at him and now he’s our top hurdler. He’s just turned into an all-around track athlete.”

Hanna Caughey and Brenna Deason were double winners for the Brainerd Warriors girls. Caughey captured the shot put in 38-7.5 and the discus in 122-3.

Deason sprinted to victory in the 100-meter dash with a 12.61 and won the pole vault with an 8-foot effort.

Myah Nelson was second in the 100 dash and won the 200 dash. She and Deason teamed with Madison Genz and Molly Hagelie to win the 4x100 relay.

Emma Storbakken posted a winning 1:03.12 in the 400 dash and teamed with Erin Hoelzel, Emily Bastian and Chandler Niemeyer to win the 4x400. Bridget Collins claimed the 1600 run.

Lily Birks leaped to a first-place 4-10 in the high jump. Deason was second in the long jump with Nelson third and Molly Hagelie recorded a 33-2 to win the triple jump.

Brainerd’s Dillon MacLaughlin has not lost a 100 dash this season as he posted a first-place 11.29. He also won the 200 dash and helped Brainerd’s 4x100 relay of Gage Borders, Marcus Yliniemi and Brandt Patton to first.

Brandon Stark (400 dash), Ethan Klisch (800 run), Thomas Ruhl (1600) and Ryan Cady (3200) were all winners

Brainerd captured the 4x400 (Gavin Hoelzel, Ruhl, Baden Bastian and Brandon Stark) and the 4x800 (Ryan Cady, Bennet Capelle, Steven Selisker, Nolan Thiesse) relays.
