Brainerd High School graduate Turena Johnson-Lane was inducted into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III Track and Field Hall of Fame in May 2018.

From 1996-97, if there was a distance event contested at an Division III meet, Lane was likely the first across the finish line. She captured five of the eight NCAA titles during that span (NCAA Division III didn't run the 3,000 meters between 1991 and 2013).

A 1997 graduate of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, Lane continued to run following her Luther career highlighted by a third-place effort at the USA 25K Championships and a sixth-place finish at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Marathon.

She is the first athlete from Luther College to be inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame.
