Track and Field: Deason highlights group of Warriors going to state in Day 2 of sections

FERGUS FALLS — Brenna Deason finished second in the 100-meter dash and pole vault to reach state in both events in the Day Two of the Section 8-2A championships Saturday, June 12.

Deason recorded a new school record in the 100 dash with a time of 12.29. She also tallied a 10-0 pole vault.

Deason also is a member of Brainerd’s 4x100 relay that ran in 49.64 and won to qualify for state. Molly Hagelie, Myah Nelson and Madi Genz makeup that 4x100 team alongside Deason.

Hanna Caughey placed second in the shotput to qualify for state in 35-3. Caughey also qualified for state in the discus in Day One of the Section 8-2A championships Wednesday, June 9.

The Brainerd boys 4x800 relay team of Baden Bastian, Brandon Stark, Ethan Klisch and Thomas Ruhl also qualified for the state tournament with their second-place time of 8:06.12.


Danielle Schirmers of Little Falls qualified for state in the pole vault with her winning score of 10-03.
