Area Track and Field: Pillager girls, W-DC boys advance to state
Pillager girls win
CROSBY—Julia Johnson won the high jump and pole vault and was second in the long jump and 100-meter hurdles to lead the Pillager Huskies girls to the Section 7-1A True Team title Tuesday, May 7.
The Pillager boys placed second in the 15 team meet. The Crosby-Ironton girls were ninth and the Rangers boys 10th.
Pillager's Jordyn VanVickle finished first in the long jump and was second in the 100 and 200 dashes.
Tucker Peterson won the 200 dash and Jack Bentson placed second in the 400 dash.
Peter Nierenhausen won the pole vault for C-I and Tucker Ringhand finished second in the 3200 run.
Brooklyn Jones was second in the pole vault and Kathryn Ireland was second in the high jump for the C-I girls.
W-DC boys win
PELICAN RAPIDS— Cooper Folkestad won the shot put and discus and the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines boys captured their third straight Section 6-1A True Team championship Tuesday, May 7.
Cody Wheeler won the pole vault and Bereket Loer took the top spot in the 400-meter dash.
The W-DC girls 4x800 relay team won at the team placed fifth overall.
Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale girls finished ninth and the boys 11th.
Aitkin girls, PRB boys win
AITKIN—Savannah Holm captured the 100-meter hurdles and the Long Jump as the Aitkin girls won the five team Aitkin Invite Tuesday, May 7.
The Pine River-Backus boys finished first led by Nate Wosmek's wins in the 100 and 300 hurdles. Nathan Nations claimed the 3200 run and the Tigers 4x800 relay placed first.
The PR-B girls received wins from Gabby Rainwater in the shot put and discus and Anna Downie in the 300 hurdles.
Aitkin's Teagan Piecek won the triple jump and the Gobblers boys won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
S-M claims 2 wins
LONG PRAIRIE—Jeff Sundstrom led the Staples-Motley boys to a first-place finish with wins in the 400-meter run and triple jump at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Invite Tuesday, May 7.
The girls team also took first place with wins in the 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800 relays. Kira Sweeny was first in the 800 run and Ashley Robben won the 3200.
S-M got wins from Emmet Anderson in the 1600. Bentley Christensen in the 800, Hunter Klimek in the 3200 and Sam Jennissen in the pole vault.
DETROIT LAKES—Matthias Algarin won the triple jump and the 200-meter dash for the Pierz Pioneers as the boys placed fifth overall in the Section 8-2A True Team meet Tuesday, May 7.
Zachary Becker added a win in the 300 hurdles for the Pioneers.
Girls team results were not available Tuesday night.
Pequot's Desera Engholm won the shot put, Calia Chaney won the 3200 and Pequot's 4x800 relay finished first.
Little Falls' Amari Riley won the discus.
