Colin Kleffman and Chance Miller each had two hits as the Brainerd VFW 16-year-old team defeated Monticello 3-1 in the second game of a season-opening doubleheader Thursday.
Miller tripled and pitched four innings. The win went to Max Boran who struck out three, walked five and allowed two hits in three scoreless innings.
In Game One, McCale Peterson doubled and Kleffman had the other hit in a 3-1 loss. Peterson took the loss, allowing one earned run and five hits in three innings with four strikeouts and a walk.
Also Thursday, the 15-year-old team opened its season with a 3-2 loss to Monticello. Ben Jones, Sam Miller and Kameron Vanek had the only Brainerd hits. Miller pitched all six innings with four strikeouts and two walks. He allowed one earned run and four hits.
