ST. CLOUD-Konnor Wicklund delivered three hits and Broc Peterson two as third-seeded Brainerd was edged by No. 6 Litchfield 9-8 in the opening round of the District 6 VFW Tournament Monday, July 23.
Wicklund finished 3-for-4 and Peterson 2-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. Brainerd scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh but left two runners on base to end the game.
Colby Watland, the first of three Brainerd pitchers, took the loss. He surrendered seven hits and six runs (5 earned) in 4.1 innings with three walks and eight strikeouts. Michael Laber and Seth Vagts combined to pitch the last 2.2 innings.
