Volleyball: 20 players named to All-Area 2nd Team

Dispatch All-Area Second Team announced.

Twenty area volleyball players were selected to the Dispatch All-Area Second Team.

Staples-Motley’s libero Maggie Claussen led the area in digs with 460 to land on Second Team.

Pine River-Backus’ Claire Dahl led the area in ace serves with 80 to be the only Tiger to make the Second Team.

Wadena-Deer Creek and Pillager each had four athletes make the Second Team. Verndale was awarded three with Crosby-Ironton and Aitkin getting two players.

Players were nominated by their coaches and voted on by the Dispatch sports staff.

Rae Nyberg, Aitkin, senior, outside hitter

Played 73 sets and finished with 167 kills (2.3 per set), 11 blocks, 44 digs and three ace serves.

Jessica Much, AItkin, junior, libero

Played 73 sets and finished with three kills, 325 digs (4.5 per set), 20 ace serves and 25 set assists.


Iyana Pickar, Brainerd, senior, middle hitter

Played 69 sets and finished with 68 kills (1.0 per set, 34.9 kill percentage), 39 digs, 54 blocks and 12 ace serves (84.7 serve percentage).

Kalli Papenfuss, Crosby-Ironton, senior, outside hitter

Played 64 sets and finished with 131 kills (2.0 per set, 31.6 kill percentage), 238 digs (3.7 per set), 12 set assists, 19 blocks and 22 ace serves (90.3 serving percentage).

Mya Decent, Crosby-Ironton, senior, outside-middle hitter

Played 67 sets and finished with 90 kills (1.3 per set, 30.3 kill percentage), 117 digs (1.7 per set), 24 blocks, 261 set assists and 32 ace serves (88.2 serving percentage).


Emma Holey, Little Falls, senior, libero

Played 67 sets and finished with four kills, 297 digs (4.4 per set), 12 set assists and eight ace serves (98.8 serve percentage).

Kelsi Martini, Pequot Lakes, sophomore, libero

Played 86 sets and finished with 317 digs (3.7 per set), 40 set assists and 34 ace serves (96.5 serve percentage).
