Volleyball: 5 teams represented on the All-Area 1st Team

Brainerd and Pequot Lakes each notched three players on the Dispatch All-Area First Team highlighted by Dispatch Player of the Year Maci Martini of Pequot Lakes.

Martini led the area in kills with 420, while Pequot Lakes’ setter and fellow First Teamer Abi Martin led the area in set assists with 822.

Brainerd’s Hala Davis led the area in blocks and was named to the First Team.

Five teams are represented with multiple players on the Dispatch All-Area First Team. Staples-Motley, Pierz and Pine River-Backus all had two players each with Pierz’s Kiara Olesch and PRB’s Hannah Barchus being in the area top 20 in four categories.

Seven players on the First Team tallied 200 kills and 200 digs on their season including Brainerd’s Kate Stadum and Meghan Smith, Pequot Lakes’ Martini and Ella Kratochvil, Pine River-Backus’ Barchus, Pierz’s Ashley Kimman and Staples-Motley’s Morgan Becker.


Players were nominated by their coaches and voted on by the Dispatch sports staff.

Played 90 sets and finished with 230 kills (2.3 per set, 27.8 kill percentage), 234 digs (2.6 per set), 34 blocks and 36 ace serves (96 serving percentage).

Played 90 sets and finished with 245 kills (2.7 per set, 31.7 kill percentage), 224 digs (2.5 per set), 42 blocks and 34 ace serves (89.5 serving percentage).

Played 82 sets and finished with 149 kills (1.8 per set, 41.2 kill percentage), 133 digs (1.3 per set), 76 blocks and 12 ace serves (86.9 serving percentage).

Played 86 sets and finished with 420 kills (4.9 per set, 32.7 kill percentage), 314 digs (3.7 per set), 21 blocks and 58 ace serves (91.5 serve percentage).

Played 89 sets and finished with 30 kills, 234 digs (2.6 per set), 685 set assists, nine blocks and 36 ace serves (92.7 serve percentage).
