ROCKFORD, Illinois — Haley Schleper finished with 23 kills, 14 digs, three blocks and two ace serves for the Central Lakes College Raiders who opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Carl Sandburg and a 3-1 loss to Harper college Friday, Aug. 20.

CLC came out and forced extra points in the first set against Division II Carl Sandburg.

“We looked very tired in the afternoon and we might be,” Peterson said. “Our seven-hour bus ride turned into a 10-hour bus ride because of a traffic jam. I saw some really good things. We played like a team. We were all together. That’s good. There wasn’t a panic and that’s good and there is so much room for improvement. It didn’t look like chaos.

“We started really well and played really well in that first set. We looked like we were ready to play. (Carl Sandburg) has some very good players. We weren’t intimidated. We weren’t scared. It was a really good start and unfortunately, it didn’t get better.”

The Raiders won the first set against Harper College but then fell 25-13, 25-17, 25-20.

Megan Rinicker tallied 13 kills, 11 digs and three blocks and Jaime Johnson recorded 12 kills, 12 digs and one set assist.

“One of the things I thought we would be better at was blocking balls,” Peterson said. “That’s kind of reading and seeing the right things. We have four really good blockers and I thought we would have more blocks. That's something we’ll practice.”
