The 33rd annual Camp Confidence Fishing Classic is set for next weekend and at this point I will plan on fishing it for about my 23rd straight year. Time does fly and I have had many fun memories from this charity tournament. I can also recall some very slow days of fishing.
I would say that the highlights have been the years where we have put some big walleyes in the boat, hopefully Barb or Ike (mom and dad) can make that happen again this year! Last year, we had a poor showing, but it's not like we are competing for the big bucks. This tournament is also a memorial for Nick Adams, one of the fine people who really got this Brainerd lakes area on the map as far as being the freshwater fishing epicenter of the world. OK, that might be a little crazy talk (the epicenter), but it's really not too far off.
This tournament is a multi-species event and I'm sure it's not too late to volunteer as a guide or to come in as a participant. Better yet, if you like to fish and have a boat, fill it with two participants and enjoy a fun, slightly competitive day of fishing!
The tournament is June 18 at Madden's Resort on Gull Lake. Call Sarah Smith at the Confidence Learning Center if you are interested. You can also go online at www.campconfidence.com/fiesta to bid on some nice goods and services!
Fishing has been good this season on Gull Lake, let's just hope it continues through the whole year. Our guides have been fishing Gull, Whitefish, North Long, Mille Lacs and some of the smaller area lakes and all have been pretty darn good!
