Merry Christmas to you and your families! The ice (or lack of) has been the topic of conversation, that's for sure. This most recent cold snap will help matters, but will it be enough? Hard to say at this point, but I would guess that there are a lot of nervous people around the ice belt.
Stores that sell ice fishing and other winter sports products, contest organizers, snowmobilers, resorts, ski areas, people who count on ice and snow are sure wondering at this point. But, let's remember where we are ... we're in Minnesota baby! We could have winter until April, so despite the slow start we could very easily get walloped with cold and snow. Time will tell, and if you are a believer, I would say it's time to start asking for cold, then snow!
The Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza is supposed to take place on Jan. 23 and this is a huge deal for our area. So, for starters, I would suggest if you have some spare cash, maybe think about buying some raffle tickets. The Brainerd Warrior Fishing Team and many other establishments will be selling tickets. Let's all do our best to help support the Confidence Learning Center. Go to www.icefishing.org to find a listing of raffle ticket outlets.
P.S. I'm thinking the boat is finally going into semi-hibernation and the SnoBear will come out! If you want to see the new SnoBear, stop in at Mills Ford in Baxter starting Monday and it will be on display!
