Hello! I hope I didn't jinx things by saying in last week's column that I thought we were going to have an early spring. I guess it's no different than the silly groundhog seeing its shadow. I'll still stick with the early spring idea - for now. But at the moment, I would say that we still have a little winter on our hands.
I had a fun fishing trip the other night with the Knapp family, who had won a radio contest on the PULSE (104.3) radio station by singing the 12 days of Christmas. Now that I mention it and think about it, I wish I would have had them sing it again in the SnoBear.
The week before I had a few gals singing "Thank You Mr. Bus Driver" as I was driving across the lake. Oh well, maybe next time.
I know the Knapp family from church and I knew going into the trip it would be a fun one! I was right, and it was one of the nicest winter evenings, temperature wise, too. There were five of them (mom, dad and three young boy - sis was skiing) and myself, so we had most of the space taken up in the SnoBear. After drilling a few holes in the SnoBear, we got momma set-up and there was a nice largemouth just waiting for her to drop her Forage Spoon right into its mouth! Bingo!
The first fish of the night, and at that point I'm thinking they thought it was going to be easy going with fish jumping out of the holes. Actually it was a pretty active evening with the tip-ups and everyone got a chance or two to pull a fish up the hole. It was so beautiful outside, we spent most of the evening outdoors slipping on the ice, chasing down tip-ups, playing in the minnow bucket and driving Lee's toy dump truck around and around. Fun night with the Knapps! Off to Winnebago to see if I can stick a sturgeon! I'll give you the low down next week.
