Hello from Winnipeg.
My son Mac and I will be out after the greenbacks (Lake Winnipeg walleyes) in the morning (Friday). The temperature is low but our hopes are high.
Although we are hearing mainly slow reports coming off of the big lake, we got some intelligence from a local tonight and we're going to check it out tomorrow.
Mac and I got into town (Gimli) around 4 p.m. and decided not to rush out onto the lake to fish. Instead, we walked out onto the lake and sat down in a local's fish house. This gentleman was nice enough to clue us in on some things.
We'll find out the real scoop tomorrow, but it certainly doesn't hurt to experiment a little (especially when you hear the "bite" has been tough). We will spend the day on the ice tomorrow in search of greenbacks, using big baits and a variety of baits. Running and gunning has traditionally been effective on this gigantic lake and that's part of the fun.

The moon is nearing full, the wind has finally piped down a bit and we're excited to see what tomorrow brings. Mac hasn't been out on Winnipeg before, so it's my hope that he can tie into a lunker!
It's the SnoBear Migration that we are up here for. Many of the SnoBear owners from USA and Canada are gathered here for the next couple days, so no matter what, there will be some good times had. I'll try to give you a relatively detailed report next week. For now it's time to hit the rack so we can be up at the crack!
