It's been a beautiful week in Wisconsin! We have been over here all week filming an episode for "We Love It! Outdoors." The subject matter is the elusive whitetail deer. I'm hunting with Todd Hess, a sporting goods representative from Hudson, Wis., and we are hunting on Todd's in-laws farm in the southwest part of the state.
The action has been really good but I have yet to squeeze the trigger on my Excalibur crossbow. This is the first year Wisconsin has allowed crossbows during the archery season for the general public. We had a big-bodied seven pointer at about 70 yards the other night but he didn't want to come any closer. We are calling him "sword buck" because of a knife like dagger on his left side. We have also seen two younger eight pointers, a four pointer and many does and fawns.
The exciting thing about deer hunting down in this country is the fact that the very next deer that pokes its head out of the woodwork could be a giant! We have through Friday and if we don't score, we will head back down here during the rut!
So, it's getting to be about that time to shower up and put on the hunting clothes. Hopefully we have an exciting night in the field and I will continue to keep you posted on our whitetail endeavors!
Good luck to all of you that are out in the woods and on the water!
