With July about to be in the rearview mirror, things are shaping up to be a pretty darn good open water season. The weather has been decent, the fishing has been decent and things are good! Our guides seem to be holding things together. This gets to be the time of year when the candle has been burning at both ends and things can get quite interesting in the life of a fishing guide. We have our families to keep happy, our customers to keep happy, our boats, bodies and trucks to keep clean.
So, with another solid month of daily trips, I'm hoping that the weather and fish decide to cooperate all the way through fall. And winter! We need those fish in our Brainerd lakes.
So, I'm sure you've heard by now that the muskellunge is going to be roaming the Gull Lake Chain in bigger numbers than before. This controversial topic is now going to take the back seat and we'll just have to see what the future holds. I'm 48 years old and depending upon how long I'm still roaming this earth, maybe I'll get a crack at one of those big toothy critters one day. I'm eavesdropping as Shelley is getting the report from Nick Miltimore and he mentioned to her that his boat caught a smallmouth today on Gull and a 26-inch walleye. Dustin's boat also landed a big walleye today on Gull (a 27-incher).
The smallmouth bass seem to be occupying the Gull Chain with more regularity these days. So, muskies in Gull, smallmouth bass in Gull ... maybe it's time to start putting some sturgeon in, too. And maybe some stickle-back chub-suckers, too.
I've got a great name for the next guide service to hit Gull! Box of Chocolates Guide Service, you never know what you're going to catch! OK, I'm starting to do a little punching, maybe I'll go do my 50 push-ups and call it a day! And last but not least ... Hi Nick! That's a shoutout to our fan Nick that worked (or works) at Nisswa Hardware!
See you later alligators,
