MORA-Evan Storbakken and Maxim Osborne finished first and second in the final sprint race of Day One of the Mora Invite Friday, Dec. 21.
Brainerd co-head coach Mary Claire Ryan explained that eight teams competed in true sprint races with the top 12 racers advancing to the finals after qualifying heats. Day Two will be a pursuit race where teams ski a classic race in the morning and a skate race in the afternoon.
Storbakken won the final sprint with a 2:04.20 and Osborne was right on his heels in 2:04.48. Ben Renner was 12th with a 2:11.
"It was nice seeing Evan and Maxim neck and neck going to the finish," said Ryan.
On the girls' side for Brainerd, Sara Nesheim's 2:30 was good for seventh in the final sprint. Grace Erholtz was ninth with a 2:33 and Emma Storbakken 12th with 2:35.
