What's Up Outdoors: Mission accomplished at DAV fishing trip

Last weekend I got to leave all the action in the Brainerd area for some peace and quiet. It was time once again for the Disabled American Veterans fishing trip at High Banks Resort on Lake Winnibigoshish.

Last weekend I got to leave all the action in the Brainerd area for some peace and quiet. It was time once again for the Disabled American Veterans fishing trip at High Banks Resort on Lake Winnibigoshish.

Veterans from the Iron Range area filled the resort and guides from all over the state came to donate a few days to ensure everyone had a great time on the water. And with two words I can tell you how the weekend went-mission accomplished.

Now it wasn't a great walleye weekend like last year but pike, perch and crappies filled the void. Everyone got to spend a few days on the water and some really good food at the lodge. Oh yeah, and a meal of fish to take home and enjoy.

It takes a bunch of things to pull off an event like this and we all do our little part but Rick and Kim, the owners of the resort, are definitely the glue that holds everything together. They offer a very generous veterans discount and go above and beyond to make sure the anglers and guides are all taken care of. People like this really make donating your time even more satisfying. Thank you guys so much for having me and for all you do. Now I have to get ready for Fishing Has No Boundaries and the Brainerd Warrior fishing tournament this weekend. Yep, summer is flying by.
