What's Up Outdoors: More than a fishing trip

One thing is for sure, ok two things. I love adventures that take me places I thought I would never see, and I really despise spending 20 hours in airports and airplanes.

One thing is for sure, ok two things. I love adventures that take me places I thought I would never see, and I really despise spending 20 hours in airports and airplanes.

But in the end it's always worth it. So if you are getting tired of hearing about Canada I promise this is the end, until 50 weeks from now when I head back to Tazin Lake. Although so many things went great the only thing missing was catching a record lake trout so that will have to wait until next year. As far as the fishing I think I have covered how amazing it is so I figured I would try to put into words the whole experience.

It's not all about the fishing. Well it is, but when you are doing it in a place so far in the wilderness it just makes it a little more special. During a roughly a 200-mile plane ride over trees, lakes and the Athabasca Sand Dunes Provincial Park, I always think about what it was like years ago and how tough it must have been to live or explore there.

And now the lodge has amenities like hot running water, satellite TV and internet if you need to get in touch with the real world. You get up every day to meals prepared by a culinary chef and shore lunches that have a backdrop most people will never see with their own eyes.

When the day is over and the fish stories are told the sun sets only for a couple hours. But that's enough time for the northern lights to make an appearance from the far north and that made me feel really small, and at the same time really lucky to be right there at that exact time.

Fishing trips are fishing trips and adventures are adventures but this has given me great memories I will remember forever.
