What's Up Outdoors: Plenty of good days left to get on the water

Area lakes are starting to produce walleye, with better days yet to come.

Being it is the dog days of summer, we are still having some good days on the water.

Don’t get me wrong, there have been some brutal days lately also, but fall is in the air and the better days are coming.

With Mille Lacs Lake open for walleyes again it’s hard not to just go catching. If you can find leeches the rocks are still producing fish but the main bite that I’ve found is definitely on the mud flats. Although the fish aren’t everywhere when you find them they are stacked on the graph. Pulling spinners with crawlers is pretty much the only presentation I’ve been using. Some days it takes a bit to find the speed and or color they want and other days it doesn’t seem to matter what you have on. The Gull and Whitefish chains have also been producing some nice walleyes. A Lindy rig with red tails is always my go to on both those bodies of water.

Now that the water is starting to cool it will be time to chase muskies a little more. But before summer slips away I think a trip to Lake Superior is needed. The lake trout and salmon bite has been heating up there also.

Good luck out there and we’ll see you on the water.
