The Horne section proved to be the undoing of the Central Lakes College Raiders on Saturday as Vermilion's tandem of Lola and Lela Horne combined for 37 points in a 73-62 win for the Ironmen in a Northern Division matchup.

Lola Horne led all scorers with 21 points, including five from behind the arc. Lela Horne finished with 17 points, but also collected 16 points and recorded 11 steals.

The Raiders lost for the fifth straight time and continued to struggle in the second half after pulling even at 31 heading into the half. They were also swept in their season series with Vermilion with the Ironwomen winning at Ely on Jan. 14.

Mackenzie Holst led the Raiders in scoring with 18 points and was followed by Kelly Pearson with 15. Jenny Skoog collected 12 points and Bethany Cressman finished with 10 as the Raiders shot 40 percent from the floor.

Three-point shooting was an issue for CLC as the Raiders shot 5-22 from behind the arc (22 percent). A bright spot was rebounding as the Raiders lost by a slim margin (41-39) to a taller Vermilion squad.

Vermilion connected on 11 threes and finished the day at 48 percent from behind the arc.

The Vermilion lead bumped up to 19-13 before Pearson scored two straight buckets to make it 19-17. Vermilion widened the gap again, but the Raiders tied the score at 31 on a free throw by Holst which finished off a five-point CLC run to end the half.

That momentum quickly went away in the second half as Vermilion charged out of the locker room with an eight-point run. Holst connected on a field goal to end the run at 16:55 of the second.

Vermilion built the lead to 59-41 before CLC went on an 18-10 run to make it 69-59 on a basket by Holst with 51 seconds left. The Raiders wouldn't get closer as they dropped their fifth consecutive game.
