Brainerd High School graduate Maren Brown helped the University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons capture the New England Conference championship with a 2-0 victory over top-seeded Norwich University March 5 at Northfield, Vt.
Brown, a 5-foot-4 sophomore forward, and the Beacons will enter the NCAA tournament with a 16-12 record. Through 28 games, Brown has three goals and seven assists with a plus 3.
It's the program's first conference championship and the team will be making the program's first trip to the NCAAs.
