BEMIDJI-Bemidji State University women's soccer head coach Jim Stone announced Friday that Brainerd native Allyson Smith has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Beavers in the fall of 2017.
The addition of the forward/attacking midfielder brings the Beavers' 2017 signing class to eight.
Smith, a 5-foot-7 forward, was a 3-sport standout at Brainerd High School. Three times she was voted the most valuable player for the BHS girls soccer team. She was an All- Central Lakes Conference selection as well as All-Section 8-2A, earned second-team all-state honors and was voted the most valuable attacker for the conference champion Warriors.
Smith has competed for the Xolos Academy on the club circuit and contributed to back-to-back USA Cup soccer titles.
She was also an all-conference selection and 3-time MVP for the Brainerd/Little Falls Warriors girls hockey team. In addition, Smith is a member of the Warriors' track and field team.

"We think Allyson Smith is the type of player who is capable of scoring goals and creating assists and also pressuring the ball and defending up top like we would like to do," Stone said in a news release. "Our forwards are our first line of defenders and she is a 2-way player so we could not be more excited about adding Ally into our program."
The daughter of Kris and Tommy Smith, Ally is a member of the National Honor Society. At BSU, she plans to major in physical education with a minor in sport psychology. Her father played football at St. Cloud State University and her mother ran track at Concordia College in Moorhead. Her brother Cole is a forward for the University of North Dakota men's hockey team.
