AKRON, Ohio - North Dakota State University's Hayden Zillmer, representing the Bison Wrestling Club, won the 86-kilogram (189.6-pound) UWW Nationals Freestyle championship May 29-31 at the University of Akron in an event that featured 700 wrestlers from around the country.
The junior from Crosby defeated Ethan Lofthouse of the Wolverine Wrestling Club 12-5 in the championship match. He went 6-0 at the tournament including a pair of technical falls. Zillmer earned All-America honors with a sixth-place finish at 184 pounds at the 2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis.
Zillmer was a 3-time state champion for the Rangers. At NDSU, he was ranked as high as sixth in the NCAA by Flo-Wrestling and seventh by AWN. In 2014, he was the 184-pound NCAA West Region champion.
In addition, he will be one of the featured clinicians at the 23rd annual Greg Schwartz Memorial Wrestling Camp June 15-18 at Morris Area High School.
Cost is $80. Participants may register the first day of camp.

Other clinicians include 4-time University of Minnesota All-American Logan Storley, NDSU head coach Roger Kish, NDSU assistant coach Derek St. John and Minnesota State University head coach Kris Nelson.
