Gilbert Lake property owners remove floating bog a piece at a time

A floating bog, measuring about 50 yards wide, nearly stretches across a channel on Gilbert Lake near Brainerd Wednesday, April 24. The channel connects the main lake with a small shallow bay known as a hotbed for pan fish angling early in the season. Mary Claire Ryan skis Monday on a freshly groomed classic trail at the Northland Arboretum. The Nordic Ski club took the initiative to groom the trails again after the weekend snow. However, funding for grooming had to come from the club’s coffers because the grant to groom state trails expired on April 1.
