Investigators used wiretaps, intercepted packages and recovered a machine gun conversion kit during the execution of more than 50 search warrants, resulting in the seizure of roughly $1 million worth of drugs.
“The Advisory Council, along with the recently appointed Addiction and Recovery Director, will provide valuable insight from a variety of perspectives, including those with lived experiences and those from communities that are disproportionately impacted by addiction,” Gov. Tim Walz stated.
"We know that reckless, profit-driven dispensing practices fueled the crisis; but ... with better systems in place and proper heeding of red flag warnings, pharmacies can play a direct role in reducing opioid abuse and in saving lives."
Minnesota has reached several other settlements with opioid companies over the last two and a half years that have brought the state hundreds of millions of dollars.

The bureaus hope to share resources and have an open discussion on mental health and opioid addictions in rural/farming communities.
Counties and cities are set to receive 75 percent of the funding, while the state will see 25 percent. The money is set to be used for response to the opioid epidemic and its fallout.
The pharmacies are accused of giving cash handouts to keep customers coming back, and one allegedly distributed its own currency, “monkey bucks,” inspired by a pet monkey that was once a common sight behind the counter.

The grant aligns with Essentia Health’s successful opioid stewardship program, an initiative that has resulted in significantly fewer opioid prescriptions, according to a news release from the health care provider.
