One person died in Sunday’s house explosion in Superior, police said. The victim, a man, is believed to be the home’s sole occupant, the Superior Police Department said in a news release Monday, May 13. The man’s identity is being withheld pending family notification. According to the release, fire crews and police responded Sunday morning to a report of an explosion. First responders arrived to find the house engulfed in flames. Once the fire was extinguished, a body was found inside the structure, police said.
DULUTH - The Diocese of Duluth has reached a settlement with 125 clergy sex abuse victims that is set to end years of litigation over insurance coverage and provide about $40 million to survivors. The settlement was reached with a committee of abuse survivors that would allow the diocese to adequately compensate survivors and emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. A disclosure statement and joint reorganization plan will be filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the near future, the diocese said in a news release Wednesday morning, May 1.
BARRON, Wis. - The man accused of abducting 13-year-old Jayme Closs and killing her parents is due back in court in Barron County, Wis., on Feb. 6. Jake Patterson, 21, of Gordon faces two counts of first-degree homicide, armed burglary and kidnapping and is being held in the Polk County (Wis.) jail on $5 million cash bail.
HIBBING, Minn. — Two men and a teenage girl were charged Wednesday, Jan. 9, with murder, kidnapping and robbery in the death of an Aurora man whose body was found along the Mesabi Trail last weekend. Deshon Israel Bonnell, 18, and Anthony Emerson Howson, 20, both of Hibbing, appeared in State District Court in Hibbing on Wednesday morning to be arraigned on charges of second-degree murder, kidnapping and first-degree aggravated robbery in the death of 33-year-old Joshua Robert Lavalley.
