BEMIDJI -- One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting Wednesday night in Bemidji. According to Bemidji Police Chief Mike Mastin, the shooting occurred just before 11 p.m. after a traffic stop at the intersection of 30th Street NW and Ridgeway Avenue.
BARNESVILLE, Minn. — A Minnesota woman has been ticketed for watching Netflix while she was driving on Interstate 94 in northwest Minnesota and crashing her vehicle into the median cable barrier. The woman., Taylor Thiets, 20, of the Twin Cities suburb of Maplewood was driving at about 70 mph last month down the interstate and has been charged with watching a television program before she crashed between Rothsay and Fergus Falls.
VIRGINIA, Minn. — A Virginia police officer shot and killed a person Tuesday evening, Nov. 27, after responding to a report of suspicious activity.
DELMONT, S.D. — A Delmont family was displaced after a smoked turkey caught fire and completely destroyed their home the day before Thanksgiving. Joe Gastonguay was preparing supper for his family on Nov. 21 inside their home when he noticed a heavy smoke odor and flames on the porch, a Delmont law enforcement official said Tuesday, Nov. 27.
BEMIDJI, Minn. — At a meeting last week, the Beltrami County Board of Commissioners were introduced to a proposed ordinance to raise the legal tobacco buying age to 21. The county’s Public Health Division Director, Cynthia Borgen, said 17 Minnesota cities and counties have raised the tobacco purchasing age to 21.
THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. -- A man was killed in a Thief River Falls construction accident earlier this month. An employee was pinned between an I-beam and lift while installing bolts at the Digi-Key construction site at 601 Barzen Ave. S. on Nov. 6, said James Honerman, communications director for Minnesota OSHA. The man was severely injured and brought to the hospital, Thief River Falls Police Chief Dick Wittenberg said. The man died sometime last week, according to Wittenberg.
HAGER CITY, Wis. - Authorities on Monday identified the Red Wing, Minn., man killed in a two-vehicle crash in rural Hager City. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said 42-year-old Matthew Parker died in the crash, reported at 12:13 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Pierce County medical examiner.
WASECA, Minn. - A 50-year-old Prior Lake woman was killed when her vehicle collided with a semi-truck Monday afternoon, Nov. 26, on Highway 13 south of Waseca in southern Minnesota. Kelly Renee Merrill was driving a 2013 Lincoln MKZ southbound when it crossed over the center line and crashed into a northbound 2015 Freightliner driven by Nicholas Joseph Zimmerman about 1:40 p.m. in Otisco Township, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. - A drive-by shooting, with no injuries, was reported shortly before midnight Friday, Nov. 23, in Hudson Township southeast of Alexandria. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, a caller reported hearing several gunshots and a vehicle leaving an area near County Road 17 and County Road 31, northeast of Forada and southwest of Nelson, at a high rate of speed.
KARLSTAD, Minn. — A northwest Minnesota man who served almost 18 years behind bars for murder now is a wanted fugitive. Joshua Carl Hendrickson, 40, of Karlstad, has been accused of assault and is at large, according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections. The details of the case were unavailable Friday since courts were closed for Thanksgiving weekend.
