Eveleia Otto plays in a puddle Wednesday, March 20, in downtown Nisswa. Wednesday afternoon marked the vernal equinox, otherwise known as the first day of spring. Puddles are abundant in the area as the snow melts during the 40-plus-degree daytime temperatures. Thursday, the temperature exceeded 50 degrees for the first time in 142 days.

Walkers carried gallons of water around the gym at Forestview Middle School Thursday, March 7, during the annual Water Walk in support of all the water walkers in the world. The walk raises funds to put in outdoor cement pitted latrines and hand-cleaning stations in small rural schools in Nicaragua. Around 350 people participated in the walk and the 650 gallons of water is used in the floor scrubbers after the walk.
Racers gathered at the starting area before the approximately 28 mile race Saturday, March 2, during the 15th annual Mille Lacs Kite Crossing in Garrison.
