WASECA, Minn. — A Waseca couple is accused of neglect after their severely underweight 7-year-old adopted daughter was hospitalized with multiple injuries. Katie Rae Krause, 34, and Keith Luke Krause, 38, were charged with felony criminal neglect this week in Waseca County District Court. Medical professionals contacted authorities in September after the girl had a seizure and they noticed multiple other injuries suggestive of abuse, the complaint said.
MANKATO, Minn. — A homeless man is facing drug charges after he was found sleeping in the entryway of the Mankato Public Safety Center. Officers found Scott Clarence Hoeft, 54, Wednesday morning, March 6, according to a court complaint. He reportedly said he was sick of being followed by law enforcement. After informing him he was at a police station, officers discovered Hoeft had a warrant and took him into custody. In Hoeft's possession, officers allegedly found prescription pills, a pipe containing methamphetamine residue and syringes.
KIESTER, Minn. — Four children were taken to a hospital for observation after a house fire in the southern Minnesota community of Kiester early Friday morning, March 8. The children escaped the house safely but were taken to the Albert Lea hospital as a precaution, according to a Faribault County Sheriff's Office press release. Multiple pets died in the fire, reported at 3:30 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Kiester is about 50 miles south of Mankato near the Iowa border.
HENDERSON, Minn. — A 42-year-old Le Sueur man and his 33-year-old female passenger died after the snowmobile they were riding struck a power line pole Sunday afternoon, March 3, between Henderson and Belle Plaine. Jeremy Michael Pumper was pronounced dead at the scene and Crystal Jo Olson, of Le Sueur, was pronounced dead at the hospital in Le Sueur, the Scott County Sheriff's Office said.
