LAKE CRYSTAL, Minn.— A Mankato woman died from injuries in a crash Monday, May 13 near Lake Crystal, the Mankato Free Press reported. Jalynn R. Williams, 20, was a passenger in a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Dennis R. Egge, 26, going eastbound on Highway 60 at 4:41 p.m. A motorist driving a Ford SUV cut off and possibly made contact with the Blazer, causing it to enter the ditch and roll, according to a the Minnesota State Patrol. The motorist in the Ford also went into the median but returned to the highway. Authorities haven't yet located the driver.
WASECA, Minn. — A southern Minnesota woman is facing a felony assault charge after she allegedly threw hot grease at a man, the Mankato Free Press reported . Yolanda Florence Fox, 47, of Waseca admitted she hit a man she knows with grease from a frying pan during an argument at her apartment on South State Street Friday night, according to a court complaint.
MANKATO, Minn. - The Mankato City Council on Monday approved an ordinance raising the legal age to purchase tobacco to 21. Mankato is now the 32nd city or county to pass Tobacco 21 in the state, the Mankato Free Press reported .
NEW ULM, Minn. — A driver was on her cellphone when she struck and killed a pedestrian in the southern Minnesota community of New Ulm in November, according to misdemeanor charges filed Wednesday, May 8. Tammy Lynn Waibel, 49, of New Ulm, was charged with reckless driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian in Brown County District Court. Waibel struck Craig L. Schmidt, 63, as he was crossing a street Nov. 1. Schmidt later died at a Twin Cities hospital.
WASECA — A nurse manager for Mayo Clinic is accused of making nearly $71,000 in false mileage reimbursement claims. Christine Chadderdon, 50, of Le Center, was charged with felony theft by swindle Thursday in Waseca County District Court. Chadderdon worked as a nurse manager for the Mayo Clinic clinics in Waseca, Janesville and Waterville and resigned after finance staff began investigating unusually high travel expenses in Chadderdon's department.
ELMORE, Minn. — A Faribault County man allegedly held a woman he knows captive while he raped, beat, choked and stabbed her. Michael Walton Hinton, 53, of Elmore, was charged with felony counts of kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct and assault Monday, April 15, in Faribault County District Court, the Mankato Free Press reports .

A teenage girl recently told authorities she was abused by Joshua James Pearson, 36, according to felony criminal sexual conduct charges filed Tuesday in Blue Earth County District Court. The girl said she was 9 and 10 years old when the sexual assaults occurred on a nearly nightly basis from 2011 to 2013.

Matthew Richard Braun, 36, of Le Center, was charged with three felony and two misdemeanor counts of assault Monday, April 1, in Blue Earth County District Court. Braun became aggressive Saturday afternoon when he was not permitted to leave the hospital because he had been deemed a danger to himself or others, according to the court complaint.
