While last week ended feeling a lot like winter, the upcoming week — including Thanksgiving Day — is expected to return to more moderate, late-fall weather.

Temperatures topped out at 20 degrees on Friday, Nov. 18, and 17 degrees on Saturday, Nov. 19, with wind gusts up to 35 mph recorded each day, according to data from the National Weather Service in Duluth. Sunday’s high temperatures in the upper 20s looked to begin a warming trend in the Brainerd lakes area, with high temperatures expected to be in the mid 30s by Saturday.

The forecast is in line with the average temperature of 36 degrees for the Brainerd lakes area this time of year, according to the weather service.

“A little bit above freezing is what is normal for high temps (in the Brainerd lakes area),” said Lee Britt, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Duluth.

While temperatures above freezing will have an impact on snow cover in the area, just how much of an impact remains to be seen, Britt said.

“I don’t think it will put a huge dent in it but it will melt some of the snow you have over there,” Britt said. “It’s looking to warm up into the weekend, but I definitely think you’re going to have some snow stick around.”

The weather service forecast calls for a mostly quiet week, with the only concern being the possibility of mixed precipitation Wednesday night into Thursday morning in northern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin. Britt said that system should not affect the Brainerd area.
