There may be snow in the forecast for the Brainerd lakes area but the heaviest accumulations are likely to fall in the northern part of the state.
A low pressure system is expected to move Wednesday night, March 4, into northern Minnesota the National Weather Service in Duluth reported. This pressure system is expected to impact the counties of Crow Wing, Aitkin and Cass, and the weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook for these counties.
This system is expected to bring a wintry mix of light snow and rain, with all snow expected to hit the northern portion of Minnesota. The highest snow accumulation of a potential of 4-6 inches will be along the shoreline of Cook County. The cities of Bigfork, Embarrass and Silver Bay could see possibly 1-3 inches of snow during the overnight.
There may be a break in the light snow and wintry mixed precipitation Thursday morning south of the Iron Range, while light snow will likely continue near the international border.
Mixed precipitation may continue for the majority of the day for north central Minnesota, the weather service reported.

Lead Meteorologist Linda Engebretson with the National Weather Service in Duluth said Brainerd is expected to see snow showers and more of the “fluffy” snow during the morning and daytime hours Thursday.
“The higher snow amounts are staying north of Brainerd,” she said. “You’ll see more of a rain and snow mix in the morning and by later afternoon it will end ... (the snowfall) won’t be sticking around.
“Be prepared, it will be sloppy.”
The weather service’s detailed forecast for the Brainerd area shows a slight chance of rain and snow before 2 a.m. Wednesday. The rain/snow mix is expected to change to snow between 2-3 a.m. The expected low is around 29, with a south wind around 10 mph. Winds may gust as high as 20 mph.
There is a 40% chance of snow, mainly between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, with a steady temperature around 32 degrees. It may be breezy, with a west wind of 15-20 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Wind gusts are expected to increase as high as 35 mph.
The temperature will dip Thursday night with a low about 16 and may be blustery with a north wind of 15-20 mph
Temperatures Friday through Sunday may be pleasing to Brainerd folks with a high of 36 degrees Friday; 48 degrees Saturday and 47 degrees Sunday.
